About Us
Our History
Established in 1963 Shearer's Musicworks has been a key player and major supporter in all areas of Waikato music. Shearer's Music began in Hamilton 1963 by the late Andy and late Rowena Shearer, Andy having worked for Beggs (a nationwide chain of stores at the time) for several years prior to this. Andy became a prominent figure in the music scene in the Waikato not only as a Piano teacher but also from playing in Bands at Riverlea, Starlight etc (sometimes five to six nights a week!)
The store opened in the main street in Hamilton and had two different locations during the first 15 years selling Musical Instruments, Print Music, Records, Tapes, CD's and Stereo Systems. The store moved to larger premises in Garden Place in the Center of the City during the 1980's and to an even larger shop (the current location) in 1988.
The larger premises gave us the room for the Yamaha Music School which was extremely popular in the 1980's and 1990's with close to two hundred students per week learning music from us!
David Shearer, (who has worked in the store for over thirty years) is now Managing Director.
